About Kirk Smith
Dr. Kirk Smith was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and grew up there. Following high school, he moved to Seattle where he graduated from the University of Washington.
He received a Ph. D. in experimental psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1963. After two years in the Army as a research psychologist, he moved to Bell Laboratories where he pursued research in memory and language.
In 1971, he joined the faculty of Bowling Green State University in Ohio and during the next 23 years, taught both undergraduate and graduate students and pursued research in thinking and memory with the support of the National Science Foundation.
Following retirement, he returned to the natural attractions of the Puget Sound he had discovered as a college student. Kirk lives in Bellingham, WA.
